My Background

My name is Al Powell, and I'm a product and experience designer based out of the beautiful and bustling city of Denver. With three years of consulting experience within the product development space and a recent graduate of University of Minnesota's UX/UI bootcamp, my career fulfillment has centered around working with businesses and individuals to unveil their product and technology needs and leveraging my visual design and technical expertise to bring these ideas to life.

To balance out the time spent behind the computer, you can find me out and about training for my next long-distance running event, indulging in the live music scene of Denver, brainstorming my next tattoo idea, and jumping around the globe capturing the essence of foreign cities and landscapes through photography.

My Iterative Approach

Discover

Leveraging a human-centered design philosophy, work with brands and businesses to address end-user requirements to be enabled and major pain points to be alleviated. Methodologies that are applied in this discovery phase include creating personas, defining user-stories, conducting competitive analyses, and determining the scope of work through a feature prioritization matrix.

Design

With the end-user requirements defined and prioritized, start fleshing out the solution design that fulfills the needs of the end-users from an experiential and visual standpoint. Key tools and methodologies applied within the design phase include process mapping, wireframing, usability testing, and leveraging an Atomic Design approach within Figma to fully flesh out high-fidelity mockups and prototypes.

Development

Once the high fidelity mockups and prototypes have been approved with the respective brand or business, leverage technical expertise to address limitations and use cases that weren't already addressed prior to jumping into the build-out of the product design. Main skills and tools applied in this phase include HTML5, CSS3, Javascript, object-oriented programming, system integrations, VSCode, and Github.
